Standard Horizon STD-GX1500SB Quest-X Fixed-Mount VHF Radio (Black) Review

This radio was bought to replace the Icom IC-M602 radios used on board some commercial ships. The problem with the Icom was the lack of RF shielding. This unit does not interfere with any other radios, has DSC capability and great audio. DSC wiring is simple and straight forward. Nice bright display matches Vertex radios and unit is rugged. Screen size is not the largest but shows everything you need without going through menu screens. Solid performing radio. Get black for UV resistance and a cooler look.

Garmin Quest 115-Megabyte Handheld GPS (010-00306-00) Review

I bought this item for more than a year already. It was and still is a good GPS that 90% of the time directs you to the right place. You just need sometime to get used to the command. The best thing to do is to first find a familiar place with this GPS and see how it directs you to the destination. However, I give it a three star because it is losing reception after one year of use for whatever reason. It used to only lose signal when I travel inside cities that have a lot of tall buildings. Now it just lose signal randowly and more frequently. Although I fix this problem by buying the external antenna, but I can only give a three star.

GARMIN 010-10610-00 Quest Motorcycle Mount Review

This mount works well. A sliding snap on the side securely holds the GPS unit to the mount. It does take a 3rd party mounting bracket (I used one from RAM which provides very sturdy mounts). I am concerned about possible corrosion in the future, as the electrical contacts are not watertight, but will worry about that when the time comes. I found the mount on-line for about $55 and would recommend it to anyone.

Garmin Handlebar Mount for Quest (010-10507-00) Review

I bought this mount for the Garmin Quest. I use it on my '98 Harley Electra Glide. This mount work GREAT! I have it right on the handle bar and when the GPS is not mounted you can barely tell it's there. The GPS snaps into a holder that snaps onto the semi-permanent mount that stays on your bars. Works like a champ and the best part is that the GPS can easily be removed when you get where you're going. If you use your bike for long trips or just like to see where you are this works great.

Garmin Quest 2 Portable Weatherproof Handheld GPS with MapSource City Maps Review

I love the fact that this units fits in a shirt pocket and can run for many hours on one recharge. I bought it to replace my Garmin Quest that was lost/stolen. Unlike the original Quest, this one holds all of North America (no more reloading maps every time I travel). However, I have noticed that the Quest 2 (compared with the original Quest) is slower calculating routes, finding things, and refreshing the map as you travel. I suspect this is because of the increased memory (the amount of data it has to go through). For me the speed is acceptable but you can wait for 30 seconds or so while it plots longer routes. If you love portable use and small units for traveling, get this one, unless you are impatient with these things.
